April 2009~ Welcome Spring, Welcome Vaggi!
Hi Woodland Watchers! Spring just makes you feel better, doesn't it? I was so very sad that my little Micky Spillane was gone that I decided I needed to find another little creature that needed a home to share with someone to love them! When Deva died, I still had Valhalla and Mick. When Valhalla died I still had Mick. When Micky left me there were none.
I found a little long haired chihuahua at Petfinder and he seemed to be just perfect. There was no doubt that I wanted another chi but I didn't want one that looked anything like Mick. This little guy looked completely different and was just perfect. I submitted an application and they called me almost immediately to say they thought we'd be a perfect match.
I went to meet the little dude and it was love at first sight. I named him Caravaggio, he's been with me over a month now and he's just great. I must say that the girls at RBARI were amazing and I was so impressed by the way in which they run the place. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a little creature or just to make a donation to help them in the wonderful work that they do! They rescue animals that they believe are quite adoptable from high kill shelters.
Vaggi is settling in really well. In fact, in true chi fashion, he moved in and took right over. They estimate that he's approximately a year old but we think he's younger as he still has his baby teeth. I'm not used to "puppy" energy!! I was accustomed to a Senior! But Vaggi can be very mellow, as well, after he tires himself out with his many toys. He follows me everywhere I go, won't let me out of his sight and likes to lay on the couch and watch me while I play the antique Victrola for him.
We'll do the upcoming Dogs Walk Against Cancer together in May. Mick and I used to love that one when he was still able to do it. It's in beautiful Bear Mountain State Park and the walk's path goes around a sparkling mountain lake. Vaggi's a precious little guy and he is helping make the loss of my beloved little Mick a bit easier and I helped him by taking him out of the shelter and giving him his forever home. We know what we did for each other!
I was so glad when Skeetie came back from his trip to Daytona. I worry alot when he's out and about on that motorcycle. There are just too many crazy drivers out there today what with all the stupid stuff people have to distract them now.
One nice Sunday morning I took a ride up to Hamburg to look at the old Gingerbread Castle to see what the state of it is now. It sits totally abandoned and falling to ruin. It was so sad! I have many fond memories of that place as a child. It was so magical. I hate, as you know, to see these wonderful Old School places go away for all time.
I was at Jinx Proof Tattoo in mid March so Eric could finish up the Rat Fink and we finally did, after 3 sessions! It's a superb large piece and a magical tribute to a great hero of mine, Big Daddy Roth (may he rest in peace.) Visit Jinx Proof for your next ink. It is a wicked wonderful Old School shop with a GREAT and seriously talented crew. Me Eric, Michelle and Blanca also went to Lee's Hawaiian Islander for our Tiki gathering and had a great time. Michelle and I drinking the fabulous Tiki Tiki's while Eric opted for the Zombies and Blanca had the Ching Tso Chinese brew. The Old School feel of that place is obvious and we hope it stays forever. You can't see it here because it wraps all around my leg, but Rat Fink is holding an Old School body shop Spray Bomb in honor of my Dad, Brother, Skeetie, Uncle Har, Donny Blake (the Foos of Lyndhurst), Jimmy Menzo and all the old time greasers in my life that made me love grease and the smell of a body shop! Grease is in my blood and I think that is why Daddy Roth holds such a prominent place in my heart.
I've been visiting with Charlie at Platter World at least once every week. I love to hear his stories and to learn about the different recordings and record labels. Charlie says he'll have to have hip replacement surgery in the near future. I am praying he'll be okay and will have a swift recovery as I love him dearly! I never leave that shop without some new wonderful piece of musical knowledge (or a huge stack of 78 records!!) I am collecting a great many outstanding 78 recordings and I love playing them. Searching through all the 78's he has that have been hidden away for many years is, for me, like finding buried treasure!
Skeet & I recently went to the awesome Metro Petro antique automotive memorabilia show and we found tons of stuff for his garage! I found a very perfect Mobiloil crate to house many more 78's as I have totally filled up my first crates!
Diane told me about a superb gallery in Brooklyn called the Debora Gallery and they will be hosting a special show there called Fata Morgana: the new Female Fantasists through April. We hope to get over there for that and then we can hit that Italian restaurant Skeetie's Mom told us about called Two Toms. Maybe we'll even take a detour to the Coney Island Side Show Museum and the newly renovated Freak Bar!!
I am longing for the warm weather, mainly so my feet can be free and put in their sandals! No, seriously, so we can get outside to the big fleas and the car shows! Soon, I keep thinking! My gardens are all cleaned up and soon the front porch will be redone. I will also be migrating over to a new computer. It's a true pain in the ass but totally necessary.
I've been doing some Spring cleaning as well and getting rid of some clothes and shoes and slowly listing some things to Ebay but I still have more to do. I long to open the windows and let the Spring air in! This has been a seemingly very long Winter! Again, soon, I think...
My brother told us about a great dealer of macabre antiques somewhat like Gothic Rose but this one is close to us! We can take a fun day trip and visit so that's another fair weather trip we plan. We can hit the Lambertville Flea Market the same day.
Spring is here! I can feel it. Pretty soon it will be warm again...
Goodbye for now, Happy Spring and a lovely Ostara, Easter and as we Italians say Buona Pasqua!
Love~
