February 2010 ~ Valentine's Day & Imbolc
Ah! The season of love is upon us and the holiday of Imbolc which is a time of new beginnings. It is where the tradition of Spring Cleaning came from. Out with the old, in with the new!
As I write this newsletter I'm sipping my tea and looking out the kitchen window at the snow falling. I'm glad it's snowing. It has created, for me, a much needed day in the house without having to go anywhere! I plan a day filled with music!
I have so many new records to clean, sleeve and organize and I like to listen as I go. The Record King has become my favorite haunt and we have many a fun afternoon hanging out, chatting and listening to new picks from the Oddball wall. I've also been doing alot of straightening of the store and, as a result, know every nook, cranny and secret place. Craig has given me many awesome records for my efforts as well as amazing memorabilia for my record room.
The Atomic Vinyl Zombie Lounge has gotten a facelift and now sports a fabulous Zombie green theme and a new sparkling top banner. Welcome to all the new Zombies and Valentine love to my regular Zombies! Without all of you we could not have done it! We also now have an official Atomic Vinyl Zombie Lounge Merchandise store at Cafe Press!
I filed my taxes the other morning and that was quite pleasing as I appear to be getting back more than expected so I'll be able to pay off the professional video cam purchase AND buy the Moog Theremin I have been lusting after. I'm very excited!
I got the Columbia Grafanola, which dates from about 1923, all fixed with the help of friends that showed me how to do it and it now works beautifully and has become one of my all time favorite machines. I also was very happy to be able to find the perfect atomic legs for my Grundig console. Now it has been restored to it's original state!
I've found many wonderful things via antiquing and thrifting including tons of 45's, some fabulous decor and the really cool Patrician electric/acoustic player that also delighted me in the fact that it worked to perfection!
My fun adventures have been limited to antique excursions as there isn't too much else you can do in Winter. I do so long for Spring and a trek back to the Edison Museum.
I've been working on collages some more and most recently did the Valentine's one you see up above. These are being printed into Valentines Art Cards and should arrive from the printer any day now.
When I lost my job, everyone urged me to get a Facebook account so we could all easily stay in touch and I reluctantly agreed but then was quite happy I did because I was able to hook back up with friends I had not seen in 30 YEARS! Very magical.
It's been very cold here and the snow looks quite pretty falling softly out there. Vaggi is sleeping soundly in his bed next to me and the clocks are ticking in a pretty symphony of rythym.
I've been recording MP3's from the Teac turntable directly to the computer and thanks to Craig I've mastered that with ease! A far cry from my frustration when trying to record that Christmas CD! This month's tune is the beautiful My Funny Valentine by Kim Novak recorded directly from my vinyl copy.
The Chiller Theater Expo is coming up again and I can't wait! There are 2 per year and we had SO much fun last time. The horror memorabilia is just awesome and often you can find some obscure horror themed vinyl there as well.
Well it looks like the snow has subsided and the sun is peeking through! It may turn out to be a glorious day after all! More snow on the way for Saturday, though!
I've been on a health & wellness kick these last few weeks and I feel pretty good! Lots of eating raw foods and really digging my power juicer. Here's a fave recipe for anytime of day~
Hot Tomato
1 med tomato
1 med carrot
1 celery stalk
1" cube of ginger root
1" cube of horseradish root
a few springs of cilantro
1 radish
Juice ingredients in order, stir and season with salt and pepper to taste. You can even add vodka if you like to this mix for a wicked Bloody Mary!
West Coast sister Diane has opened her new shop space in the antique center nearby her called Pandora's Parlor and you can see pics of her magical wares at Diane's blogspot Pandora's Parlor
Additionally my dear friend and artist extraordinaire, Manic Mark Betcher, has been keeping a fabulous blog in which he reviews and commentates on wonderful vinyl oddities that he's discovered in his travels. Very fun reading: Manic Mark
Ah! The magic is all around us! Love is in the air and friends make us warm in the dead cold of Winter. By the next newsletter I hope to be well on my way to mastering the Theremin. I'll keep you posted. I know the basics, just need the higher end machine to practice the two handed technique!
My cup runneth over with the love and support you have all been showering me with. You all really make me feel like the true Queen of the Zombies.
Love, Light, Art, Music and Valentine's Hugs & Kisses!
Namaste~ Tink
