Hello watchers of the Atomic Universe! Another very busy month that flew by for me! It has been very hot & humid this year since Summer began. All the greenery we had during the Spring turned to dry & brown very fast!
The beginning of the month holds the Gasket Goons charity art auction which we hope brings in lots of money! Myself and my boys at Jinx Proof Tattoo all have pieces in the show.
I've been having SO much fun creating my Wikki Wacky Hoodoo Voodoo Sock Creatures and Creatures from the Atomic Universe and have re-opened the Etsy shop as a showcase for them. They have been a very popular item and SO many of you have them now in your lives! Some of you have SEVERAL! They are hard to resist. They truly are magical and take on their own personalities the moment their lips are stitched and their eyes are in place! You can find them at Tink's Atomic Universe I love to sit outside on the deck and stitch up a creature on a beautiful afternoon! You can see the creation of one here in this video!
I continue to work on my spoken word Exotica pieces and those are a wonderful relaxing release for me! I enjoy them very much and I thank all of you that love them. It inspires me to do more!
It is just non stop here for me between selling auto salvage for my dad on Ebay, vinyl for Blanca, working with Craig, maintaining my website and Etsy shop and trying to keep up with creating new things. There just isn't enough time in the day.
I've been regularly helping Craig, the Record King, and we always have a great time. He's always picking up new collections if there's things in them he thinks I'll like. Today he had a huge stack of 78's for me! The cast of characters that comes through there is diverse and wonderful! One very fun afternoon recently we hung out with Louie Azzolini of Ratso Retro fame (and owner of the famous Asbury Lanes which holds some of the BEST record shows I've ever gone to!) Louie brought his Jack Russell, Cookie (Carmella) and we had a great time talking about growing up Italian, the horrific Xanadu (by Giants Stadium), Hudson County and Palisade Amusement Park! He makes the beautiful retro Palisade Park t shirts that Craig carries in the shop. I got one for my Dad for Father's Day and DeSoto bought one when he was down visiting in April! You can see him wearing it in some of his videos!!
My thrifting adventures continue and I am constantly amazed by some of the things I find! Paterson has such a massive thrift store and I try to get over there Monday mornings for a bit as it's 25% off day!
I've also been trying to visit Mikey at Joannie Loves Tchotchkes once a week to check out his stash of 78's. I got some true treasures from Mike and he takes good care of me, setting up a table and chair so I can hunt in comfort! He says he has more 78's he needs to dig out for me and what I like about Mikey is he doesn't leave the 78's out for everyone to handle. He brings them out when I walk in the door! The best!!
I'll be selling some vintage record players at Record King, some fully working , some that will be perfect project players for anyone who knows what they are doing and all are clean and super nice. The Decca's there with the legs, a beautiful Silvertone that needs caps, a Trutone and there will be more to come. You all know how difficult it is to find vintage players ! Here's your chance to add something new to your stash and visit a wicked old school record store in the process! I am so excited about the 40's Wesco-matic that Craig helped me with the other day! It is such a magical machine!!
Recently I visited with my dear Charlie at Platter World and, as always, he had a magical bunch of things for me for a true bargain. I left there with my arms full of records and a skip in my step, happy as a lunatic! Charlie was playing Puccini's La Boheme at top volume that day! I could hear it as I approached the shop! FABULOUS!
4th of July is upon us already and it feels like it was just Memorial Day! Honestly, where does the time go? Today is the first day in a long time that it is actually nice out with low humidity! I spent a few hours with Craig, Bill & Don at Record King this afternoon and I plan to possibly do a fun score vid outside on the deck tomorrow! It's supposed to be in the 70's! WOW! I'll lug one of the acoustic portables out there, too, I think!
Just finished sharing some leftover slices of Barcelona's pizza with Vaggio! Blanca & I hit on Barcelona's last night for Pizza, mussels with hot sauce and a pitcher of Shock Top. Very fun as we hadn't been there in some time. Very Old School, Barcelona's! I didn't get to bring Raymond there when he was here but I will next time for sure (it's literally around the corner from Platter World!!)
Well, I think that will about do it for this month! I am sure there is more I want to say but I'll remember only the moment after the newsletter is released! Isn't that always the way? Keep those fabulous YouTube vids rolling, Zombies! You are all the best and I love you xoxo P.S. I am leaving music off of the newsletter this month as the Hoodoo Video has a fabulous cover of Uncle Albert done by the V.O.S. Trio and I was lucky enough to find this oddball rarity AUTOGRAPHED!!
