June Musings 2008

June greetings Woodland Watchers! It's still not all that warm here in the Nor'East but surely soon! We've had many fun adventures already this Spring, though, and we are looking forward to many more! I love this time of year!

While Skeetie continues renovating the garage (it's big, like a barn) I work in the studio and have just launched the latest addition to TWC: Tink's Atomic Fez Factory! These fab and funky feminized fez's are so much fun and I am having a great time seeking out unique fabrics to create them from. I will make sure you always have plenty of choices and they're bargain priced at only 15.00 each so you can collect several to fit your every mood and outfit. Additional selections are available in my Etsy shop at Tink's Atomic Fez Factory

We've been doing much antiquing and continue to find great vintage stuff for both house and garage and the outdoor flea markets are not even in full swing yet! I'm looking forward to a trek to the Englishtown Flea Market soon. That one is huge. The GaGa Arts Festival is this month as well.

Not quite warm enough for gardening here yet but nearly so. Skeetie made me a perfect trellis for my wisteria out of the fabulous antique spring mattress we picked up in Piermont last Summer. I love the way it looks and I love to watch Skeet work. He's got some ingenious ideas and the practical creativity of the old Italian men in both of our families. He can do about anything. The wisteria looks very happy to have all those places to climb and wrap around!

There are a couple of new Art Cards by Tink© and another in the works. I will continue to create these as the spirit moves me. As many of you already know, I love doing collage work. I also need to plan another studio organization. Soon.

I was back at Jinx recently on a very dreary and rainy day to get my fabulous rockabilly, guitar playing, tiki headed guy inked by the master, Eric Newman. The low brow/hot rod sleeve is looking wonderful. I got an added bonus that day by Skeetie and his bud Anthony stopping in while I was there.

We ventured out to Coney Island recently for the Side Show and museum but the museum was closed for renovations. That was SO disappointing! It was a cold and rainy day but we made the best of it anyway. During the heaviest of the rain we stood on line in famous 100 year old Nathan's for hot dogs and a brew. We stayed under the Nathan's awnings while we finished and then ducked into the Side Show. It was cool and dark in there with Side Show banners all around and wooden bleacher seating.

The Side Show wasn't all that impressive with the exception of Angelica, the fire eater, but it was fun anyway and very old school in it's seedy, slightly unprofessional way. I understand it is a 10 in 1 side show so I imagine there are more acts during the peak season and with all the doors that open to the street, there are probably more things going on outside on nicer days. It's still well worth the trip, however, as Side Shows are very few and far between these days. There was a gift shop and a tiny little bar as well.

After the Side Show we walked through the old Astroland amusement park (which is a portion of Coney Island that will be saved from destruction) and then went back to the car to search out a fun place for dinner. It had been many years since I'd been in Coney Island and I just loved it's run down charm. I imagine it has remained virtually unchanged for many, many years!

Recently we happened to have a warmer day and I did a bit of running around in the morning while Skeetie was off on a job. I shopped a bit and went back to the thrift store to rummage around. When I got home I powerwashed all the deck furniture and the back awning and just had a blast. Everything looks sparkling clean and new for the season. I got a bit obsessive with it and now I understand what Auntie Jeannie means when she says she is getting carried away with the powerwasher!

Memorial Day weekend we went into NY for a street fair on 3rd Ave in the East Village and that was a fun day! The weather was gorgeous and the fair was not very crowded at all! Skeetie shopped for a rockabilly summer hat and I found a new piece of Asian Erotica for the collection. We ventured into the Thirsty Scholar for an afternoon brew and good conversation then found another fun little fair on 7th St where Skeetie found 57 chevy bumper guard bullets for 30 bucks!! We stumbled upon the Village Scandal hat shop where I got a distressed red cowgirl hat and the proprietress gave me wedding cake bubbles then we were off to Great Jones Cafe for big steaming bowls of crawfish. yum! I just love street fair season! We also got a wicked vintage desk for my studio (and THAT turned into a weird and funny adventure in itself!) although Skeetie had his doubts about where I was gonna put it. Of course, it doesn't take me long to find a spot.

My nephew is on a new kick and that is these Legos military thingy's so this morning early I was up and Ebaying for some of the ones he wanted. The problem is all the ones he wants are from Hong Kong so that means slower shipping. Let's hope he hasn't moved onto the next thing before the Legos get here!

I am always questing for new fabrics and now with the Atomic Fez Factory the hunt is on. I have a plan to do some wrap yoga pants as well and I will do these out of the same sorts of unique fabric finds as the hats. I'm excited about it!

As I write this I am outside on the porch with the early morning sounds all around me. Skeet is getting ready for a motorcycle trek with the guys and I am having a steaming hot cup of tea. I have a Tink crocheted shawl on in colors of the ocean made from glorious 100% wool scored in the thrift shop. It's warm and cozy on this beautiful Spring morning. While Skeet's off on the bike, I will do some shopping with Mom and then come home to arrange my new desk in it's place here in the studio.

My heart goes out to my friend Kristin who lost her doggie Nellie recently. You gave her a wonderful life with alot of love and in that you can find some peace. Nellie even got to live in NYC for a bit so she had a full and wonderful adventurous life!

That's all for now! See you next month~May your adventures be plentiful! I love you all~
