June 2009~ Summer's on the Way!
June is a glorious month. Warm enough to be outside but not yet brutally hot! We've been spending alot of time outside with car show season having started! Last month we were down in Philly to attend our friend Professor Ouch's wicked Finkadelphia Car Show & Swap Meet. It was great and held at a great location surrounding a tranquil lake. Lots of cars and lots of great merchants! We bought some fun stuff.
We also went to the Pearson Education Car Show & Flea Market in Upper Saddle River and that was another really great show but it was a cold day for riding in the hot rod! I even found some 78's at that show!
Other than the car shows we continue to antique as it is one of our fave things to do and the flea markets are all in full swing now! We'll be hitting Lambertville, the Meadowlands, Englishtown and I'd like to get out to the one in Barto, Pa. as well. I was in Belvidere at their 5 acre flea and I found a whole mess of 78's. It was a great flea market and I can't wait to get back up there!!
The huge Nauck's Vintage Record Auction has ended and I was lucky enough to win most of the things I bid on including the rare & wonderful Lucille Bogan 78! Seeking out hard to find blues records is so much fun and I am a very determined seeker!
I watched a fabulous documentary called 'The Search for Robert Johnson' and it got me looking for a road trip route through the Mississippi Delta blues country and I found one that takes you from Memphis to New Orleans and that is the one I want to do. I imagine all the old records I may find in the dusty old shops and barns down there! Ah, the history, the music and the fabulous food! There's a wicked Bed & Breakfast there in Clarkston, Ms. called the Shackup Inn which looks so incredible it would have to be a definite MUST stop along the way!
Charlie continues to clean and straighten the shop and each time I go in there he has unearthed new stacks of 78's for me to go through! Obtaining that Bogan was so exciting for me and Diane has scored some Helen Kane 78's (the Betty Boop girl!)I have several versions of one of my favorite songs Girl of My Dreams which was featured in the film Angel Heart. A beautiful, haunting tune. Most recent addition is the industrial, heavy duty Califone player which is outstanding and saves wear and tear on the rare records. The sound is incredible and it has so many features like shock absorbing feet, bass & treble adjustments, turntable pause, a light up tone arm and a built in stroboscope for perfect turntable speed!! I am thrilled with it!
I have been creating fun Atomic Fez's in great new fabrics and will add those shortly, as soon as I get them pressed and photographed. I may even bring a bunch with me to future car shows. There's also a few new Hoodoo's!
Some web site changes have also been made. My Ebay auctions are now linked directly, my videos are also directly linked and I have brought back the Events page which I will update regularly with great upcoming events that we'll be attending or endorsing for friends. Thanks to Diane, the new category buttons sorta match the old. My graphics program was on the old computer and so far I can't find the disc to reload it to the new one. You can also now follow Tink on Twitter here: Sideshowtink and see what I'm doing at any given moment!
On the Ink front I have a beautiful new antique Victrola done by Eric. I am planning a resonator guitar and some Be-Bop lettering as well.
We had such a varied mix of temperatures with a couple of days hitting 90's and then plummeting to the 40's! Hard to adapt to changes like that!
The little thrift that I used to frequent in the historic train station that burned down has re-opened in its new location! I'm happy to have that little shop of possible treaures back!
The Fangoria Weekend of Horror is this month at the Jacob Javitt's Center in NYC and I can't wait to hit that!
Another thing I love to collect is old cookbooks and I found a wonderful stack of them at the little Thrift. What is better in Summer than seafood? This fab recipe is from the Montauk Point Lighthouse Cookbook.

This month's tune is Last Kind Words by Geechie (also known as Geeshie) Wiley. One of the first recorded Blues of all time.
