March 2009~ Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone. I have very sad news that some of you may not know about yet. My beloved little chihuahua, Mick, crossed the Rainbow Bridge on February 21. He was getting frail and really declined in the last couple of weeks. Being blind didn't help him at all and he couldn't walk anymore. When he would no longer eat I knew he was telling me "I'm done. I have had enough and it's time for me to go."
My Vet took us immediately and there was no question that this was his time. It was very peaceful and I stayed with him the entire time, kissing him on the head and saying goodbye my sweet little one.
They cremated him for me and when I picked him up they had put him in a beautiful dovetailed wooden box urn. I cried very hard. Now Mick's ashes are on my altar with candles and pictures of him. He was with me a long time and it is very, very hard. I am so sad, my heart aches for him but I also know that it was time for him to leave me.
Thanks to all my friends and family that were so helpful during this intensely emotional time for me. My mom, Diane and Skeetie were especially helpful just by being there and messing with my 78's is very therapeutic! Nothing soothes the soul like music.
After I picked up Mick's ashes, I took out all his papers from his adoption papers to his vet bills and read through them all. I layed out all of his license tags and the original tag the shelter had on him when I adopted him and was inspired to make them into a necklace. It was a good healing project.
I love you and miss you, Baby Boy. Forever.

Skeet has left for bike week in Daytona with our friend Joe and I miss him alot. I'll try to keep busy in the studio if I can concentrate. I'll also continue to clean, sort, play and catalog my collection of 78's which has grown to an impressive number with some real gems of vintage music. I also aquired a beautiful old Victrola portable which weighs a ton and plays the records very clearly! I had read an article by a collector of wind up portable players and he said once you have a Victrola you won't be able to listen on anything else. Quite possible, however, I found a pristine Silvertone and could simply not resist it!!
I recently finished a large, special piece for my friend Denise and that was great fun. It will grace the entrance to her massage studio and impart it's positive energy all around. I can't wait to see it hung!
On Valentine's DaySkeet took me to the city to House of Oldies (home of ONE MILLION records!)and we were taken down treacherous cellar stairs to a musty, dusty substrata FULL of records floor to ceiling and everywhere you turned! My Dad also told me about a record store nearby that has been opened for over 20 years and I dropped in there recently and met the 85 year old owner, Charlie, who I sat with for an hour going through stacks of 78's. I'll be making that a regular stop for sure!
We've been continuing our antique adventures and have been all over seeking fun things. The Wayne PAL monthly flea market is a favorite and we have also rediscovered the Dover antique center which is all changed and much better than it was. We also met 2 wonderful dealers of 78's over there.
Taking care of Mick in his last weeks has kept me out of the studio so there is not much to report from there. I would stitch some Atomic Fez's while sitting on the couch with Mick on my lap but I need some healing time right now and look forward to Spring and getting back into the studio. I need to clean out the gardens and get them ready but it still has been way too cold for that yet. In fact, we are expecting more snow as I write this!
Eric did some more work on my Rat Fink but we were still unable to finish it. We'll finish it on the 13th. I can't wait. We are also planning a trek to Lee's Hawaiian for a fun Old School Tiki gathering and maybe get some inspiration for the Tiki sleeve we are working on.
Today I was back at Platter World with old Charlie going through the 78's in that cramped little shop. I found a bunch of great stuff and Charlie gave me a Carl Perkins Blue Suede Shoes on the SUN label!! A superb, rare, Rockabilly item! Charlie knows just about everything about music and I learn something everytime I go there. What a magical find and I am so lucky to have it so close by!
Well, it's been tough and I have had a hard time getting to this newsletter this month. I have not had much energy in the past week but since the writing of most of this newsletter, I have adopted a wonderful new Chihuahua puppy who I have named Caravaggio. He's FULL of energy and just demands my total attention but it is helping me alot. Vaggi is a very special little dog and I'll tell you more about him next month!
Spring is in the air. I can feel it. I can't wait.
Goodbye for now, baby Mick. Mama loves you and misses you.
Love~
