~ March 2010 ~ Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Wow! That's yet another month that flew by! Lot's of major snow this past February but today is sunny and bright and a hope of Spring is on the wind!
I've had some fabulous adventures despite the storms that have been pounding the Nor'East including another trek to the Edison Museum and the magical Asbury Lanes Record Swap! What a fun, retro atmosphere and great stuff at great prices (along with free admission, free breakfast burritos and free bloody marys!) Now I'm looking forward to RaymondT's visit in early April and the adventures will continue!
I created a new piece with an Irish theme for Jinx Proof Tattoo's St Patrick's Day charity auction and another fun piece for my dear Manic Mark who sent me my incredible Queen Zombie throne and also created a fabulous piece for me that incorporates art and electricity! That one is on the way now and is called 'Tink Queen of the Zombies (with the Atomic light up Sapphire Throne)'. I am very excited about these 2 new Manic Mark pieces. He is also starting to incorporate motors into his art so keep an eye on him to see those soon to be revealed!
I was lucky enough to aquire two Edison players last month and those are the most glorious pieces of history! The Edison Standard Phonograph, which plays 2 minute wax cylinders and an Amberola 30 which plays 4 minute blue amberols. Very exciting for me, indeed, and I can really feel the ghosts of past owners dancing about my music room when I play these!
I'm still spending many a fun afternoon with Craig, the Record King and also paying visits to Charlie at Platter World~ both places are must stops on our list of things to do when RaymondT gets here!
I've been trying to keep fun stuff listed to Ebay for much needed extra income and do have a couple of curio cabinets to clear out so I can move those out to add cabinets for the cylinder records (not nearly as easy to store as discs!)
Another cool aquisition is the theremin which is so fun to mess with. I've always loved the sound of theremin music with my earliest memory of it being the theme from Dark Shadows! Alot of 50's and 60's Exotica and space music incorporated the sounds of the theremin into the mix.
Blanca and I are anxiously awaiting the release of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and it will be out by next weekend. We'll go see it next week during the day when the theaters are less crowded. I have been dying to see that for months!
Trying to keep up with everything is my most challenging issue right now! I honestly don't know how I did all this when working full time! The forum, website, running around, finding time to create, trying to keep up with the cataloging of records and making sure the newsletter gets written! Both Manic Mark and I have started special blogspots devoted to music. Mark has been covering Private Press Oddities and I've been doing surf/garage/hot rod guitar instrumentals. We both add MP3 clips for your listening pleasure and any info we can muster up on the artists!
I've been learning so very much about the repair and restoration of antique crank phonographs from my friend Louie who is soon to be releasing a series of workshops in DVD format which you will be able to buy. They are so very informative and straightforward! I'll keep you posted on the progress and availability as well as where to purchase the series. We are anxiously awaiting the completion! Louie is our newest Atomic Vinyl Zombie along with Lennon and DeSoto and our little Zombieland continues to grow and thrive!
Also, don't forget about our Cafe Press shop with Official Atomic Vinyl Zombie merchandise! Great stuff! I ordered a bunch of it myself so as to check on the quality and I can attest, it's very nice!
I'd like to take a moment to thank the wonderful boys of the Atomic Vinyl Zombie Lounge. You are all so sweet, special and dear to me. Most of your membership cards have been sent and should have arrived. I know Raymond, Sal & Scooey's seemed to have gone astray but I'll send others to you when I send out the next batch for the new Zombies. Your Zombie Queen loves you all! Keep your fun posts and YT videos coming and always keep those records spinning!
So that's about it for now, I think. I know as soon as I finish this newsletter there will be something I forgot to add but, c'est la vie!
We are nearer to Spring every day!
May the Magic of the Irish touch your life this St Patrick's Day!
