May 2008~ Happy Spring!

The weather is trying to get warm now. Flea Markets are opening, street fairs, car shows and cruise nights will start here in a couple of weeks. Soon I can start messing around in the garden and I am always looking forward to that!

Recently we went to the Golden Nugget flea market in Lambertville and found some really great stuff. It was still quite chilly that day and very tough for me, with the broken toe, to walk on that gravel parking lot where the merchants are set up! But we had great fun and Skeetie found amazing 50's speakers to hang on the living room wall and connect to the stereo at Nu Retro Designs.

I have finished a fabulous new Art Card for the Tinkie & Skeet editions entitled Old School Romance and a brand new Third Eye pendant called Green Sea Tiki. While I work in the studio, Skeetie continues to finish up the garage so he can make it his perfect retro sanctuary. He's collected up some vintage pieces for the garage and it will be amazing when it's all done.

Skeetie brought me a great heavy duty filing cabinet for my studio from a place where he was doing some work and I love it! I have totally Tinked it up to make it really work in my studio and it keeps me nicely organized.

I continue my ink journey and the most recent addition is my Von Franco shrunken head rendered in incredible color by inkmaster Eric Newman. Getting ink is a spiritual experience for me and I just love watching the progress. Eric continues to outdo himself! This sleeve will be a tribute to low brow/hot rod art including the Von Franco and the Scott Musgrove pieces. Jinx continues to be my home away from home and I love my family there.

We are just back from a weekend away in Philly to hang with our friend Joe (AKA Professor Ouch) for his rockabilly birthday dinner & bash which was a wickedly wonderful time! We met some great folks and the Professor kept us totally entertained with tables of party favors, a magician, a ventriloquist, a sword swallower, vintage female wrestling films and wonderful food. Red Stuart, the sword swallower was also a human pincushion and guests were invited to staple gun money to his torso! He brought along a bed of nails that we were allowed to try and I DID! Red also gave us all autographed postcards just like old skool side show days! It was too fun. Professor Ouch had some of his Odditorium collection there at the bash as well and REALLY great music, which we all got a CD of to take home. While in Philly we visited the Mutter Museum which is RIGHT up our alley! It is in the Philadelphia College of Physicians and has all kinds of freakish medical oddities from the 18th century on. This is the oldest medical museum in the world.

Also while we were away we found a little place for breakfast made famous by Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives called Daddy Pop's Diner where we had some wicked eggs, grits, homefries & scrapple. I just LOVE our road trips and this one was amazing.

It is TIKI Time and I am expanding the Tiki decor to reach the outdoors. I got a rafia umbrella for the deck table and some shell wind chimes. An outdoor Tiki Bar should be next...don't you think? And if you love your Tiki, get him a wicked shrine to house him in! Tiki Shrines

The yard is looking beautiful and everything is in bloom and filling in nicely. The forsythia is in golden splendor and soon it will be the little jungle I love where you can't see through to the other houses and it is a little private oasis!

I have recently discovered an amazing jewelry artist that makes fabulous hot rod and tiki jewelry. Check out Hi Octane Jewelry for some amazing stuff!!

We found the perfect Rat Rod for me which Skeetie was gonna grab but we were just a tad too late. The dude sold it within hours of our call. I was SO looking forward to cruising in that and I was really bummed out but there will be others, I'm sure!

I hope you are all getting out there and starting to really relish the warm weather. This time of year is so wonderful. We are like nature, coming alive after our Winter's rest. I am a firm believer in living every moment to it's fullest. Savouring life! Don't deny yourself any small pleasure and take NOTHING for granted. Do exactly what you want to do. Make it the way you want it. "ENJOY YOURSELF, it's later than you think!"~ Guy Lombardo.

Well, that is about all for the moment. I have to go plan my next project, road trip, adventure. Love out to you all.

Happy Hot Rodding!
