We are in the height of Autumn and it is a beautiful time of year in the Nor'East! MANY strange changes in the air!
Last month, shortly after the release of the October Newsletter, the company I worked for 'restructured' and started the process of phasing out my department. I found myself out of a job after 22 years with the same company. It was a shock to me but I did get a decent severence package so that along with unemployment and I am actually enjoying this first time off in MANY, many years!
Our Atomic Vinyl Zombie Lounge (the club for Ravenous Record Fiends) has been very fun and super active! I so love my Zombies! Our mutual interest in music, records and vintage players has created a magical blend of a family of Vinyl Junkies and we have become very good friends. They are the BEST! We now have our official Zombie pins and postcards on the way. Very fun.
I am enjoying digging through the thrift shops, my favorite little antique shop and hanging out with Craig, the Record King. I have found some of the COOLEST stuff having the freedom to frequent my haunts often. I have also discovered another fabulous record store in Pompton Lakes.
Auntie Jeannie, everyone's favorite tranny, has been sending me homemade pizza and other fabulous things from Molisana's Italian Deli and even some vintage Italian records she found stashed away! As always, I love you Jeannie!
I went to the second Saturday record show again in October and look forward to the November show as well. Also, Skeet took me to the big WFMU record show in NYC where we got to see the Trashmen and bought tons of great stuff!
I got fabulous care packages of records from Raymond, Cris and Miles (who found the Munsters Theme by Billy Strange for me!!) My Zombies are the best! Eric, with the HUGE heart that he has, did another 45 adapter for me in ink and refused to take any money. Cost, he said, would be "One Hug"!! I really have the BEST friends any one could ever ask for!
Vaggio is VERY happy to have me around. He used to hate when I left him for work each day! He's getting more spoiled than ever, as a result!
Halloween came & went VERY fast this year and now we can look towards Yule! I'll be putting up my tree very shortly, as you know, I always put the tree up early on in the season so as to be able to enjoy it for the whole season. Too much work and fun to just take it down after a couple of weeks!!
I've been lucky enough to score some amazing new phonographs and am having a great time seeing what my other friends are aquiring! Don, the Junkman, rebuilt a Voice of Music innards for me to have put into my beautiful V of M Eames-Era player so I was very appreciative of that! I also scored another Grundig, an antique Lindstrom child's 78 player and a BEAUTIFUL Geib antique crank player as well. I also found a super nice Magnavox at the Goodwill for 25 bucks and Craig put a brand new needle in it for me and the thing kicks ass! I'm hoping Skeet will help me pick up the Grundig with the big truck as it won't fit in my jeep.
I've been selling lots of fun stuff on Ebay and since I've started going through my original vinyl collection which has been on shelves in the closet for 18 years I'll be selling off some of those as well. There's roughly 1000 Lp's in there so it will be a long and painstaking process but alot have already been sold. I'll continue to list fun and unique stuff every few days!
I've been taking some fun jaunts to the country to seek out new antique and thrift shops and enjoy the Autumn splendor! It is unusual for me to actually drive distances but I have been more relaxed and less RUSHED around these days and I can leisurly do these little jaunts and I really enjoy them! I've found some fabulous things out there in the last month!
I am totally loving my music room and continue to add to it's decor, making it a true Tink Space. I have other similarly obsessed friends (Raymond T) and we have long conversations into the night about our fun finds.
It's time again for the big Nauck's record auction and I have my choices picked out and my bids entered. Last year I was so lucky and won nearly every one of my choices including the Lucille Bogan. It was remarkable! This auction closes November 7th and if you are a regular customer, you get this catalog automatically. If not, you need to buy it, but SO worth it. You can also see the bid list online on his website Nauck's Vinatge Record Auction (click that and it will take you to the site)These auctions are superior and he holds a couple per year.
I think that's it! I am sure there is more but the time flies by so quickly, I forget all I wanted to talk about! We are planning an annual CD swap comprised of each of the Zombies favorite Yule tunes so that will be fun. I love Yule and can't wait to get the tree rockin this year! It will be a 50's style pink one this year with all the beautiful vintage ornaments I have scored over the last couple of years including those my cousin Donna sent me last year. SO, grab your brew of choice and meet me in the lounge!
Today I am off to the Chiller Theater Convention with Skeet AND we are going to pick up the Grundig!! FUN!
A Happy, safe, fun Thanksgiving with the ones you love to all of you.
